My name is André, or if you wish, you may call me Andy. I’m a native English-speaking online teacher and a proud South African, which is where I obtained my degree in Performance Art at Stellenbosch University. I majored in Media Studies which is practically connected to television and radio performance. I’ve worked for various online teaching companies and schools in China, Egypt, and Spain. My roles included being an English teacher, a Drama teacher (yes, even online), a project designer for teacher training, a lesson designer, and a preparation video recorder for various companies. There’s no teacher more fun and easy to communicate with than me.

I’ve always been interested in working with children, and a few years ago, I would’ve never imagined finding myself comfortable in the online teaching industry, but I knew I didn’t want to have a set career in traditional offline teaching. My interest in online teaching grew stronger over the years and I’ve even had the opportunity to design my own drama course and present it to a school as well as various opportunities online besides teaching English. Teaching online provides students a sense of comfort and they feel more at ease to express them and show their personality without the formal rules at traditional schools. This makes teaching much more fun and creative for both the student and the teacher.

Coming from a performance art background, I enjoy adding practical creativity when I teach or facilitate. Believe it or not, this is possible, even virtually. I believe communication and interaction should be made memorable for us to have a better understanding and appreciation. The more fun and visual stimulation there is, the better the learning experience will be for both parties. I’m probably the most approachable person I know – I enjoy conversation and learning about new cultures. There’s always something to talk about. Running out of conversation is unknown to me. I believe patience is an extremely valuable tool if approached right. It’s a quality that can help you get into great situations and out of sticky ones.
